RIBA Yorkshire Student Awards 2009

Its interesting to read what projects the award winners chose to do for their final projects, although not much information is divulged nor are there any pictures, it must be assumed that these were at the very top of their league! It would be interesting to take a look at these projects just to see how much depth and detail was applied.

Anyway guys heres the link!

what the blog!?

Hey guys, Sunny here.. As you can probably tell the archiMETure blog page is looking somewhat different to how it was last year. I quite like the new layout, and I hope you do too! I cant take credit for the design change so Ed, here's to you *clap clap*!

On the right hand side you will find a 'Current PG Dip Blogs' section which (as I type) contains the links to 5 current blogs by PGDip year 2 students. I would strongly suggest that you take a look at these blogs, make comments, share ideas and perhaps even get a blog of your own!

Thats all I'd really like to say for now..!

over and out

Brunswick

Many of you know that the old 'Leeds Met School of Architecture' building, Brunswick, is being demolished to make way for the Leeds Arena. However not many of you will know what it looks like at this moment in time..

Warning - the images below may bring a tear to your eye.

Intuitive Response (and Magic!)

On tues 10th Feb we, Graduate Diploma year 1, had a 'intuitive response' show and tell presentation. Generally the idea was to make a sculptural model of some sort however it was up to the individual to find a means to portray a feeling, idea, sense of space about the site. Some people made sculptures, some made models (one that reminded me of this for some reason..) and others tried more creative ways of expressing their thoughts. One of these ways was a card trick!

Obviously being the keen videographer that I am, I was there to film this spectacle in full 720p HD glory. so here's the link. (you might want to click the video and watch it directly from youtube - there is a 'watch in HD' link which, unsuprisingly, directs you to the HD version. :)

Urban 2020 Competition

Hey guys and girls, i've a message to relay to you. To summarise the message below here are the key points:
  • free to enter
  • you need a vision of what the connected urban community of the future will be like.
  • cash prize of £2,000
  • more details visit www.cisco.com/uk/urban2020

(message begins...)
Hi Sundeep,

Hope you don’t mind me messaging you, I work for Octopus Communications, a PR agency that works for global technology company Cisco.

Cisco, in partnership with RIBA, The Guardian, RSA and The Eden Project, has launched a competition, which I thought might be of interest to members of your group, Yorkshire Architecture Students.

The competition is called Urban 2020 and has been launched to generate debate around the development of sustainable, connected urban spaces.

The competition is free to enter and any UK-based student is eligible. All you need is a vision for what the connected urban community of the future will be like.

The judging panel will be made up of representatives from Cisco, RIBA, The Guardian, RSA, The Eden Project amongst others. This is a great opportunity for architecture students to get their work seen by leading experts - as well as win a great prize.

Finalists’ ideas will be showcased for one week at the Royal Institute of British Architects, and a cash prize of £2,000 is offered for the winning entry.

More details on entering Urban 2020 can be found here: www.cisco.com/uk/urban2020

If you think this is something you or your friends might be interested in please do pass on this information.

Feel free to get in touch with any questions,
Phil
